your dream vacation
Bavaria is one of the most popular holiday regions in Germany. This is mainly due to the diversity of this largest federal state in terms of area: the capital of Bavaria, Munich, with its rich cultural life and fantastic climate, attracts many visitors every year for city trips.
Bawaria
Apart from its urban centers, Bavaria also attracts with its medieval cities, nature parks such as the Bavarian Forest, idyllic river landscapes such as the Danube, fabulous lakes such as Chiemsee and, of course, the alpine landscapes of Upper Bavaria. Perhaps it is worth considering your next vacation with our western neighbors – our list of the 10 most beautiful places in Bavaria may be an inspiration for you.
Neuschwanstein Castle
This historic building is often called a fairytale castle. No wonder: the castle was built on the orders of the Bavarian King Ludwig II “in the true style of old German knights’ castles.” Opened to the public in 1886, seven weeks after the monarch’s death, Neuschwanstein is now considered one of the most visited attractions in all of Germany. From there you can admire the view of the surrounding area or discover the area on a hike around the Alpsee or Schwansee, through the Pöllat Gorge or towards Füssen.
Breitachklamm Gorge
Truly exciting and magically beautiful: Breitachklamm near Oberstdorf offers an extraordinary nature experience. In the deepest gorge in Europe, there is a 2.5-kilometer hiking trail leading along the roaring Breitach River. Bizarre rock formations and fascinating vegetation create an unforgettable atmosphere in this 150 m deep rock crevice. On well-protected bridges and footbridges you can face the forces of nature while looking down or up the steep rocks.
Zugspitze
(2,962 m above sea level) is not only the highest mountain in Germany, but also one of the highest peaks of the northern limestone Alps. There are difficult climbing paths to its top, but there are also several cable cars.
Lake Königsee
is located in the center of the Berchtesgaden park. The water in the lake is one of the cleanest natural waters in the world. Its quality is similar to that of drinking tap water.
Lake Tegnersee
is located in the south of Bavaria in the foothills of Bavaria (part of the vast Bavarian Alps). It is a popular recreational area due to its proximity to the capital of Bavaria – Munich (approximately 50 kilometers). You can cycle around the entire lake or take a steamboat trip.
